Now, That’s A Cupcake . . .
The daughter of a longtime friend of mine won a cupcake contest last week. It was an amateur competition – here are the rules:
- All decorations must be handmade and edible – no paper, plastic, or other decorations that cannot be eaten.
- You may use any of the following: Fondant; Food coloring (powder, liquid or gel); Buttercream (any type – quick, French, Swiss, Italian); ”Buttercreme” (but we would argue that it’s not truly “edible”); Gumpaste; Sugar; Pastillage (but why would you do that to yourself?); Piping gel; Water; Any tools necessary to achieve your design.
- Any decorations that you use must be made by YOU – no premade, purchased flowers, shapes, etc., with the exception of sprinkles used as an accent, not as the main element of your design.
I had a look at the competition, and wow wow wow – very impressive! I’ve lifted a few of the photos – check them out!
And finally, the overall and really cool winner from Cara Lee Heggi of Cara Lee Cupcakes & Cake:
Yes, that’s a cupcake.
